Those of you who are regular "blog stalkers" will recognize these guys in a second...and I LOVE that.
As a photographer you know you've done a good job when clients come back...and when they come back again and again (and again!) well you get this feeling that your future together holds so much more than just a photoshoot here and there. You just *know* there is something bigger going on. Mom and I just *connect* as weird as that sounds and Mr M down there, well you've never received a hug so tight in your life. It's so tight you can still feel it minutes later, no kiddin. : )
These guys are in that amazing and wonderful catagory that make me LOVE this job and I'm ever so grateful for that.
Oh yeah - we took these in November! Slowly but surely I'm getting caught up... : )
ok, last session from October - woo hoo! : ) (let's just ignore the fact that his 9 month shoot is only a few weeks away...yes, let's.)
I could just swim in this kid's cheeks and his sister - swoon - if raigan ends up even half as delightful as Miss Paige when she's nine I'll be thrilled!
This session was so long ago but I do remember that little Ryan here wasn't exactly a star sitter yet so mom and big sister were just inches away most of the time (especially on the bridge) in order to prevent disaster. (I had to clone out mom's hand A LOT to be totally honest.) The scene at the park that day must have been hilarious...mom would set him up and keep a hand on him and then big sister and I would do anything and everything in our power to pull his gaze away from mom (he LOVES his mama) and as soon as she would hear the "click click click" mom would let go and lay on the ground just inches away ready to catch him when he fell. I kept roaring with laughter at the scene and I'm sure it made for quite the entertainment at the park. My shoots are always like that though and I love it. I wouldn't be surprised if I started some sort of following to help entertain the retired folks on saturday afternoons... : )
ok, so we're still in october but we're near the end of October so technically that's progress right!? right. : )
For a change of pace - big kids.
I photo so few big kids and I'll be honest I think it's WAY tougher than the littles. I'm good with littles. A little tag, a little tickle bug, a few mini marshmallows being sneezed out of my nose and poof! smiling faces. Big kids though..well it's way harder to get those natural smiles I'm after so badly. They can smile on demand of course but that's too easy, and they just look a bit off when they do that - I want what they really look like when they're happy and with big kids it can be a bit tougher to crack the nut.
These kids were SUCH good sports, as was dad and honestly I don't remember the last time I had such a "feel good" shoot. They were all so sweet.
My favorite part though? About the time we were all done Dereck dropped raigan off so that he could go to work and I watched this mom and dad of big kids fall instantly in love with my toddler. The played with her with such enthusiasm and laughed when she kept yelling "Duck! Toose!" and seem to just be elated with her presence. It was a wonderful reminder to try and enjoy every minute of these precious little years for they'll be gone before I know it. : )
Those last ones are probably my favorite...after 16 years I can only hope that Dereck and I still look at each like that. : )
ok, so let's just move past the fact that these are from *gulp* october...
I could seriously go on and on about this wedding but it's about midnight and my eyes are red and droopy and I bet my kid will be up in about six hours so I'm going to have to make this pretty quick. So I'll pick one thing to point out.
If there was on thing about this wedding that I never want to forget it was the bride's dad's speech. Or rather lack there of. "Dad" stood up, he took the mic, he pulled out this crumpled piece of binder paper, opened his mouth and nothing came out but a squeak. An honest to goodness squeak. He cleared his throat and tried again. "Squeak! Cough cough." He loosened his tie, cleared his throat again and even from about 25 feet away I could see the tears roll down his cheeks. He wiped his eyes, lowered the mic walked over to his baby girl and handed her the speech he had written. A hug and a kiss and he sat down. The MC that night said "One day when you have children you'll understand what just happened there."
Three years ago I would have politely giggled at him from behind the camera but that night I cried like a baby right along with him. Suddenly it was my little girl all grown up in that white dress and omgosh guys I was bawling...it was one of the sweetest things I have ever seen and I've never been so happy to be a parent than I was at that moment. I was so thrilled to know a love that deep.
And now I'm crying again sitting here alone at my keyboard at 12:08 on a Friday night...ok, enough. On to the pics. : )
I think those are a bit out of order towards the end but you get the idea. It was an AWESOME party. : )
